One of Salinas’ stand out features is its pleasing climate. The average temperature is 68.2 degrees, with any morning fog generally cleared by afternoon breezes. The summer climate of the area is characterized by average afternoon temperatures in the 70s, dipping at night into the 50s. Daytime winter temperatures are generally in the 60s, dropping at night to the mid-30s. The average rainfall of 14.14 inches is concentrated in the winter and early spring months. Salinas was recently named the city with the best climate in the United States and Canada in "Cities Ranked and Rated," a book comparing 400 cities.
