Government

Both the City of Salinas and Monterey County have solid, well-managed governments that are sensitive to the needs of citizens. The responsiveness of the local governments has ensured a positive climate for both residents and businesses.

City of Salinas
Salinas’ charter system, adopted in 1918, allows residents to control city government structure and municipal services, producing independence in non-state matters.

The City Council consists of six members, elected by district for four-year, staggered terms on a nonpartisan basis. The mayor is elected at large and serves two years.

City Council meets on the first three Tuesdays of every month at 4:00 PM in the Council Chamber Rotunda at 200 Lincoln Avenue.
