Salinas is a community of neighborhoods with a variety of housing options tailored to individual tastes. Let one of our friendly agents assist you…

Home Sales
The median price for a single family home in Salinas is $565,000, compared to $635,000 for the county as a whole. The residential vacancy rate is 3.5% and there are 40,633 housing units in Salinas.

If there is restriction to growth in Salinas, it is in an effort to preserve the agricultural land that surrounds the city. New building projects to the south, west and east of the city are limited because that land is some of the richest, most productive farmland in California.

Rental Housing
The median monthly rent for a 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartment is $1150. Rent ranges are: studio $600 to $800, 1-bedroom $850-$1100, 2-bedroom $1000-$1,300, and 3-plus bedroom $1150-$2,250. Reliable sources for locating rental properties are local newspapers The Salinas Californian and The Monterey County Herald.

Low Income Housing
Low and moderate housing assistance is available through a variety of programs offered by the Housing Authority of Monterey County, the City of Salinas and Community Housing Improvement System and Planning Association (CHISPA), a nonprofit housing developer. Apartment complexes for low-income families, the elderly, handicapped and farm-labor families are located throughout Salinas. The city has a Housing Trust Fund to help increase the supply of affordable rental units and opportunities for home ownership.

The Monterey County Association of Realtors is another good source of local
real estate information.
