Salinas is the capital of the Salinas Valley, which has long been known as "The Salad Bowl of the World" for its fresh produce, and is also renowned for its flowers and vineyards. More recently, the region is emerging as a world hub of agricultural technology. Although agriculture is the foundation of the local economy, more than 100 manufacturing firms call Salinas home.

Legacy of Leadership
Thursday, October 1st
Save the date for the Chamber’s most popular Fall event – the Legacy of Leadership! The event is set to take place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at the Taylor Building/Portobellos Courtyard in Salinas, CA.
This signature event shines a spotlight on remarkable individuals and organizations whose dedication and service have made a lasting difference in the Salinas Valley. The highlight of the night will be the presentation of the Legacy Award, along with honors for demonstrating outstanding achievements in public service, philanthropy, volunteerism, and community engagement.
- Legacy Award: Harry Wardwell, former Executive Director of the California International Airshow Salinas
- Public Servant of the Year: Dr. Deneen Guss, Monterey County Superintendent of Schools
- Nonprofit of the Year: Arts Council for Monterey County
- Young Professional of the Year: Celia Garcia, Northridge Mall
Children Shopping Tour
Saturday, December 12th
For over 70 years, the Children’s Shopping Tour has been a heartfelt tradition that brings joy and changes lives every holiday season.
The Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce Foundation is proud to present the 75th Children’s Shopping Tour, which will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Northridge Mall.
Each year, local schools and teachers nominate children, based on need, to participate in this special event. On Shopping Tour day, each child is paired with a volunteer chaperone and receives a gift card to shop for essential clothing. Generous retailers at Northridge Mall offer exclusive discounts, maximizing the impact of each donation.
There are opportunities available to support the event for everyone! You can volunteer at one of the many stations or donate to this incredible cause.
